Why are ppl scared to call it what it is and say we’re still going thru covid on top of seasonal illness. Like. That’s pretty important right. I was watching the news and they were like oh yeah we have an unprecedented number of flu cases “as well as other sicknesses” without actually saying Covid. Curious, what are your thoughts on the writing of female characters in the show? Some felt they are rather dismal since also often the named female characters ended up in a love interest plot at some point (Mabel and her friends in NMM, and the Dipper and Candy subplot in Roadside Attraction).

I somewhat also believe a part of the Mabel hate also stems from their criticism of how Mabel is written. Because of how she's based on his sisters, so Hirsch's more light on her especially when it comes the show's 'lessons'. Also why fans have an issue with her. Hirsch keeps punching Dipper down because he wasn't afraid of making fun himself. That doesn't happen nearly as often with Mabel, and even if it does, it feels a lot less harsh or brushed away. Like why did the puppet guy in Sock Oprea have to be creep at the end? It's like she ruined her puppet show to help Dipper, but also dogged a bullet.

And another issue with Wendy: the writers also fear to crack her that they shot down any story idea that would have developed her. Alex keeps saying he has ideas for Wendy, but I'm honestly having a hard time believing him, since she keeps being barely involved in any new material. And whenever she does, it's often with regard to Dipper's crush. it's super annoying that candy and grenda only really got attention for meh love plots.... my girls deserve more than that.... (and people better quit ignoring that they beat bill's ass!!!!)

alex is more comfortable with being more harsh on dipper but even still a lot of the plots where he has to "sacrifice" something tends to get softened up too, like how in the pool ep wendy also immediately gets fired and the time travel ep immediately has waddles humiliating robbie in front of everyone (and also a lot of people + dipper himself just ignore that what dipper was doing wouldn't stop robbie from asking wendy out, it's only delaying it at most and that's definitely not worth ruining mabel's happiness that she only lost because she helped dipper out and he refused to find a way where they both "won")

it's been like ten years since the show ended, and he says he has so many stan o war stories in his head so i genuinely do think alex actually has some idea on what to do with wendy but like. him doing one line with her at most in tbob is so disappointing and it makes me wince when it feels like pacifica comes off as a replacement (and when mabel's only relationship with her former rival is just to wingman her and her bro >:///// booooooooo it's like her shipping candy and dipper all over again but this time constantly in supplementary materials like a jumpscare)

you've mentioned that a likely reason for the focus on pacifica is the angst potential and honestly i feel like alex can easily dig into wendy's struggles with her own dad (and how that can bounce off with the daddy issues duo of stan and soos) + it's.... more easy to relate to that than having comically evil obscenely rich parents??? idk man

I wonder if Johnny, when he kills, despite trying his very fucking hardest to run from the programming of the military, uses the same justification that's usually instilled there. That he's only doing what he has to do with no time to ruminate on it. I wonder if he feels any guilt over this, remorse, that his ego soothes over with these justifications. That they deserve it. That he doesn't really leave the dehumanization that he's learned in the military pertaining to his 'targets' behind. That in his eyes, these are lives that don't matter due to not aligning with his personal beliefs or interests.

oooh good question... He definitely will kill a child, yeah. He doesn't go out of his way to target them, he can get more materials from an adult after all, but he will. There's actually two specific garden-wrecking little brats he's been trying to get his hands on for quite a while now

Now, does he LIKE kids? ...not particularly. most of them are probably scared of him, and he doesn't know how to handle a young crying child. I can see him tolerating older kids, as long as they're not causing a ruckus or being destructive. That being said, go for it with your fankids!

Though I don’t bring it up often, I’m a huge fan of Joel G’s wacked out cyber-surrealist YT indie animated series ENA! All of their shorts & the unique madman’s 90’s PC/internet fever dream setting & characters are extremely charming & a sandbox ripe for derivative fanworks from fiction to art.

The series’ heavy video game influence has come full circle and “ENA: Dream BBQ”, a long awaited First-Person Adventure game set in the world of ENA & spearheaded by Joel G themselves has released the game as a 1st chapter for free on Steam. As such, I absolutely cannot recommend the game enough to anyone & everyone with a Steam account, ENA fans or otherwise.

Similar to the series itself, ENA: Dream BBQ is an absolute triumph of style with excellent animation of a myriad of styles that bolster & define the unique surreal setting & characters. It is also a marvel in terms of voice acting too with the protagonist ENA continuing to be a purposefully dual-voiced role & the multitude of wacky multilingual characters earnestly delivering the Seussian near-nonsense dialogue that the series is also well known for and all with distinct flair & personalities that make certain nearly everyone will find at least one favorite within the madcap cast.

Though (as of this post) I’m not too far in the game yet myself, by the end of my first 30 minute play session via my Steam Deck (works excellently btw), I’d already purchased the game’s Support Pack Upgrade DLC. The DLC is not only an avenue to simply financially compensate the development team & their efforts but it also unlocks a unique collectible element which, upon finding the Hourglass Dog easter eggs, grants game extras like concept art, dev commentary, pre-production assets etc.

Honestly, even if one has zero plans to actually play the game themselves, I genuinely hope that people will still reward a frankly bafflingly free, high quality indie game that IMO exemplifies why the indie scene is such a necessity as well as a boon for gaming at the levels of industry & medium alike.
